Purpose:
A patient account representative’s purpose is to resolve patient accounts and provide billing assistance and support to the business office. This is a remote position and can be based anywhere in the United States.
Position Summary:
Patient account representative acts as a liaison between the individual, the healthcare facility, and the insurance company to resolve billing issues and claims.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General office environment
Fast-paced environment with frequent inflexible deadlines and frequent interruptions
Physical stamina to sit or stand for long periods of time
Occasional lifting of <15 pounds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Problem resolution: Investigating and resolving claim denials, disputes, and other issues.
- Collections: Following up on unpaid claims, collecting payments, and creating payment plans.
- Communication: Answering billing inquiries from patients and other parties and communicating professionally with patients.
- Account maintenance: Updating patient insurance information, posting payments, and making adjustment to patient accounts.
- Experience: Prior experience in medical billing or collections is preferred.
- Computer skills: Proficiency in computer software and technology, including the ability to operate a computer and phone.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff.
- Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Insurance: Knowledge of insurance coverage, including commercial, managed care, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Analytical skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to make sound decisions.
- Compliance: Compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Education: A high school diploma or GED equivalent is the minimum requirement.
- Medical terminology: Knowledge of medical terminology, including CPT and ICD10 coding.

Additional Information:
- Pay range is $21-$24 per hour commensurate with experience. Position is non-exempt.
